A description of a middle class family holiday at the seaside, booked through Cooks Travel Excursionist.
I’m so excited, a whole week at the seaside! Everything has been booked through Cooks Travel Excursionist. We catch the steam train from London Victoria railway station all the way to Ramsgate in Kent. Our hotel is directly on the seafront and once we’re safely booked in, we’ll have afternoon tea, then we will all go as a family for a walk along the promenade. I’m longing to go to the pier, there’s so much to see and do there; it’s so funny to watch the Punch and Judy show and if we’re lucky Father will buy us ice cream and we can listen to the band play. Best of all though, is that Father will hire a bathing hut for us ladies to change into our bathing costumes. Once we are ready, the men will wheel our hut down and push it into the sea, where we can simply open the doors, walk down the steps and straight into the sea to bathe. You know, even Queen Victoria has a bathing hut over at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, how jolly!
